This project came as an outsourcing contract from a Canadian marketing agency in Brithish Columbia. Their client wanted to build a website that will serve the funeral homes industry in the BC area.
The requirement was that the site is custom-coded using the Codeigniter framework (PHP/MySQL) that will be connected to an external online database of funeral homes so that the client can fill out a questionnaire and build his/her funeral plan, and then get offers from local funeral homes. The client can also purchase an insurance/plan from the funeral home of choice.
This project was a bit unusual as the marketing agency had a designer on staff and she was to do the frontend work and we were to build the backend, system build. As this was a single project developed by two different teams on two different continents, the challenges were mostly with holding up to the pre-set SCRUM/Agile development while making sure nothing falls through the cracks.
Our developers worked on the system and using TeamWork Project Management Platform we kept track of tasks, tickets and bug removal. Things did get messy and frustrating at times, which is an expected situation and we all needed to keep a cool head and keep our eyes on the ball. Web development teams easily flair up and jump at each other’s neck, but all that is so that the code is as optimized as possible, and that the end user is pleased with the results.
As we heard, the clients are happy with how the system works and are also pleased with the flexibility we’ve shown in doing all the upgrades and changes of the mechanisms so that people who use the website will have a very pleasant user experience. After all, it’s all about making the client happy.
